How can learning be effected by a teacher? 10/21

As I was explaining in what is learning I taught the concept of line of best fit and correlation. I think that if you show how the students can use the information in their lives they can relate to the subject and internalize the material. They are then able to take that information and use it to their interests and then make your subject more enjoyable and useful for the student.

  1. This is how I learn best. I have found in my limited exposure to the academic world, that the favorite teachers make difficult subject matter more interesting by applying to the real world.

  2. I think your comment about students using the information, relating it and internalizing it hits the nail right on the head. It's quite a challenge to get the students to take what they've learned outside of the class and apply it. But when it happens, you know that learning has occured.

  3. I like how your approach of getting the student to see how the information that you are going to teach, can be valuable in their lives. Once that is accomplished, I think it is much easier to learn, relate to the information, and last but not least, pay attention to the teacher as he/she teaches the information! I also learn best that same way.
