Learning Week 1

Learning? What is learning? I believe that learning is obtaining new information. Learning is obtained by pursuing things that a person does not know yet or has not mastered. Learning is a lifelong process that a person does up until they are no longer on this Earth. Learning could take place in a classroom, at the gym, at home, listening to the radio, or doing something you already know. Learning can be as shallow or as deep as long as the person is gaining insight or new knowledge.

  1. BJ,

I also believe that learning is a lifelong process. However, I also believe that it doesn't just end at death. I particularly like the examples you listed. They are perfect in that every situation you presented are poles apart from eachother. The gym is not even remotely like the home. I also like how you pointed out that the student is in control of the shallowness or the depth of what they learn. Sometimes as a teacher I think it is MY responsibility to go deep, but the student must be an active participant or neither learning noe application takes place.

  2. Good definition of learning B.J. I like how you point out that learning can take place at other locations outside of the classroom! It sometimes frustrates me as a teacher that we cannot do more with our classes outside the classroom. For this reason I think it is important to bring as many experiences as are possible inside the classroom for the students.

  3. okay, here is a thought....is it learning if you forget the information promptly? There is no right or wrong answer, but just food for thought
